So let’s jump in!

You’ll hear from our special guest:

A little about Kendall, when she was 15 years she was diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa, her recovery process was luckily very supported by the people around, which helped her transition in and out it pretty quickly. Her experience led her to find such a massive love for health and fitness. When she was 17 one of her best friends introduced her to weight and resistance training and became completely obsessed with it. Over time she started to fall more in love with her body she became to focus more on her mindset and relaying more of a positive message. She then got her personal training certification the day she turned 18, while going to her first year in college, while working at chipotle AND McDonald’s, and while she was organically posting about her personal training journey and life on instagram, which blew up to over 50k followers that year.

Then, she found an amazing personal training opportunity in Florida that she went to over the summer and while she was there observed and learned so much. By the end of the summer she decided to not got back to school, quit her personal training job and move her business to online fitness coaching because she realized that what she was making online was way out-doing what she was making in person fitness training.

She then decided to move out to Los Angeles, where the fitness and coaching industry is really booming and was able to make a lot of connections, and from there she continued to grow her IG platform, serving and growing her business. Over the years she’s really become equally if not more passionate about marketing, scaling her business and educating other online coaches. At 20 years old she is now living in San Diego running and growing her business.

Kendall began to feel that urge of scaling her business last August with her coach, as her coach helped her navigate through how to scale and grow her business she began to realize she was having so much fun learning how to create email lists, generate leads and dive deeper into how to market her business. Kendall’s community also began to reach out to her seeking help and guidance in scaling their business that Kendall really felt such a calling as she lights up to talk about business with any and everyone who reaches out to her. She’s now looking to start making that transition into teaching more about growing and leading a business as an online coach.

Questions for Kendall:

If someone was looking to start a business as an online coach what are some key things you would say to focus on?

“The one thing I lacked in the beginning was structure for scalability, but the one thing even before that hats it going to come down to is content creation because that is what’s going to help you posture yourself. So, finding out WHO is your ideal client and WHY do you want to work with them? This is some very much more intrinsic so defining what your beliefs are and determine who it is you really want to work with long term. So, there are two main points that I would focus on which would be the content creation side of things and I would say for the structural to posture yourself a little better is get an application going, which will help you get on a call, and create content that is really gauged toward your ideal client.”

For someone who has figured out who their ideal client is, how can they start to create content that speaks to them?

“9 out of 10 times, your ideal client is just like you, they’ve gone through what you’re going through, they are literally like you’re human, your spirit animal. So I would say when it comes to content creation, be vulnerable, it is so important to put yourself out there and sharing your struggles. For me being in the health and fitness niche, it was really about my recovering from and eating disorder and then focusing more on my relationship with my body and food, it was really easy for me to share about my daily lifestyle. If you’re a business coach I would say speaking through the struggles of your business, what’s working well for you, what isn’t working well for you. Definitely the captions, will be the biggest thing that draws them in and definitely don’t be afraid to get on your stories and show your face. Your clients are technically buying a person, they’re not buying a coach who resonates with them, and use quality photos and providing consistent value. And ask yourself what do I need to hear right now?”

What would you say to someone who is scared to show their normalcy on IG stories because I know that  people don’t think that anyone’s going to care?

“It is genuinely your duty to share your life, because you will not be able to serve people if the don’t know who you are. Think about a mentor, I would have never invested in my mentor if I didn’t see into her life. You wanna get to know someone before you even think about investing or even following them. You have to put into your own perspective about what you would do and that will help you realize when you need to show up. The way that you need to connect with people is video and it’a a tool there for you to use it, so use it! And if you are scared to do it, practice, practice, practice!”

Can you walk us through the business stages that your coaching has gone through, because I know that you’ve got systems in place right now, so what did you kind of start out with, what did it look like when it started?

“So, I started off with just taking on 1:1 clients and it was a mess, I had google docs everywhere, take in sheets, for the first 3 months I had 1:1 clients, an application and an email for them. In started to grow my client list over the year, but I wasn’t doing a 3 month program I was just doing a month to month coaching, so some of them are still with me but also some of them were only with me for a few months and that left me feeling pretty used. I started working with a business coach and she introduced me to courses, so I began using courses for my clients as a beta program and had the application. At this point, I had 90 clients, so I then decided to start doing 3 month coaching programs and I wasn’t going to take on anyone else unless I could handle it, so I started a group coaching program and I also set up a system for calls and a type form application and then I would go and check if it was a good application and then it would send them a calendal link to set up their call with me, and my group coaching program went wonderful. So I had 1:1 coaching, group coaching and then an alumnae coaching program, so there are a few different tiers to my coaching, and that lasts for an entire year and I now have a virtual assistant and an assistant coach, and then I also have one last tier which is a membership site which is super affordable and there’s a lot of value in it and it kind of runs itself, AND now I’m going to be transitioning into business coaching, so I am very blessed with an amazing team and my VA and assistant coach are the most incredible women in the world. But yes, everything is really systemized and finding all this free time now.”

When would you say is the right time for messy action vs. when it’s time to start putting things into place, especially in the beginning?

“I am all about messy action, but I am about it so that you can still serve, and make sure that whatever programs you have for your client are in place, for me it came down to having a check in sheet and an application process, and I think what’s important is to realize that you don’t need everything in place, you just need to be able to serve the client. “

What would you tell someone who is looking to make some type of transition but they are scared to?

“So, I’ve dealt with this and I’m currently dealing with this, and I think the biggest thing is that you can’t allow other people to control others what you make. If I had listened, I would literally be sitting in a college classroom right now learning something that doesn’t apply to me. I would have not taken any of these risks that I’ve taken to get me where I am today. You know, obviously respect them and say thank you but go back to your goal and your dream, because you will be the happiest human alive. A friend of mine gave me advice the other day and said, stop taking advice from people who are not on the same wavelength as you or don’t understand what it is you wanna do.It’s been the biggest step for me to join a mastermind and looking up to people doing there things that you want to be doing.” Ask for help!

What would you say is really important for someone who is looking to scale, how do you clean it up?

“I would say for me it was really curating an email list and nurturing that and then the biggest thing I would say is having my tiers in my coaching business and giving them a low, middle and high ticket option. And then also for me, systemizing my business and I was able to scale because it gave me more free time because of the systems in place and then eventually bringing on team members. “

What would you say for someone who is starting out on social media and generate leads?

“Consistent post times make a massive difference in my engagement and also focusing on content creation, but also for the backend side of things, put yourself out there more and don’t be afraid to dm people and go through those hashtags, comment on people’s pictures to create those relationships, so you have to go out there and look for your ideal client. “

What is one thing that you wish you would’ve known when you started your business?

“I wish I would’ve invested in mentorship way earlier to make it happen, I would’ve been surrounded by more people doing what I am doing and would have had my systems in place and it just makes for more rapid growth.”
