IN THIS EPISODE:

Today I come to you to talk about about tools that you can use today to find warm leads, get real clients, and really speak to them in a way that doesn’t feel gross or sleazy.

But before I dive into this, I need to talk about the elephant in the room, that is, cold messaging.

I’m going to walk you through my experience with receiving cold messages and talk about why people are so triggered by cold messaging. There is a huge difference between seeking out your ideal client and building a relationship and sending a cold message to book a call.


DONT’S FROM COLD MESSAGES I’VE RECEIVED:

  • When people don’t even take the time to write ‘Melissa Lin’ and instead write something like “themelissalin” and it’s so clearly a bot or a copy & paste.

  • When I get messages saying something like “I lost 6 pounds in 10 days, do you want to do this too?!” Sends a photo and a link to book a call. And says “give me a call right now!”

  • Another one is when I get daily messages saying, “Hey! (not even my name) I’m a coach, I’m looking for 5 ladies…” And they never show that they know or care about anything about me.


These completely show a lack of trying to any value in the conversation and blatantly trying to sell me something. I am telling you right now, DO. NOT. DO. THAT. You are going to rub so many people the wrong way and I don’t blame them! It shows that that person shows no interest in me at all. The big issue where people go wrong with cold messaging is that they don’t take the time to learn anything about the people that they are cold messaging, not even looking at my instagram to learn something about me first.


People aren’t taking the time to get to know you and that rubs them the wrong way.

My time is very valuable and if you aren't going to take the time to get to know me or even put my name then I will definitely not talk to you!

There is a huge difference though between you messaging and taking the time to get to know that person, asking them how their day is going, talking to them about some of their struggles right now and engaging in a conversation with them. You may start to feel like you’re trying to sell to them, but that is your mindset talking to you.

So if that’s you,  ask yourself, do you truly believe that you are seeking out your ideal client? Are you reaching out to people because you’re trying to sell to them, then that is what you’re going to feel like! But if you are going into social media with the intention to be present and add value that can lead to sales down the road, that is very different.

When was the last time that you felt that feeling in the pit of your stomach the last time someone messaged you and it felt gross like that? I want you to think about that.

Ask Yourself:

  • Are you doing that to somebody else? The answer is probably going to be no, but that is just the mindset that you are having towards it. So it’s important to go into the conversation with the mindset that you are there to add value.

  • Are you forcing a sale or are you looking to genuinely connect with people?

  • Am I going into this trying to bring home a win win for me and my client?

  • How do you feel about selling? Do you feel like selling is gross?

Write these down, define where it comes from and turn it into affirmations. So, if you feel that selling is gross, say that selling is helping. If you aren’t out there selling and providing your gift, people don’t know that you can help them and change their lives.

At the end of the day selling is all about human connection so start to think about those different things. Really think about the mindset that you have and really go into those conversations to build relationships.

I promise you this. stuff. works.


But first, it’s so important that you engage outwards. So many people come to me and say, “nobody is watching my stories, no one is liking my posts.” And I always ask them, how much are you engaging on people’s stories, posts, etc. We receive what we put out into the universe. This is part of having a business on social media, you have to be social.


The Three Step Guide:

  1. Start searching hashtags that they use.Think about some of the hashtags that you’re ideal clients are using and look at those hashtags and go engage with those people.

  2. Look at other influencers that you know in their niche. Your ideal clients from those pages, their friends are probably your ideal clients too. Just because they are following this other person doesn’t mean they won’t work with you. Everybody chooses to go with a coach for so many reasons and that is perfectly ok, because there are so many people out there!

  3. Look at your current clients. Their friends could be your ideal clients, The hashtags they use are probably your ideal clients also.


People only work with people who they know, like and trust.


Action Items for you to take today:

In part one, I talked about going into your stories and engaging with the top 10 people who watch your stories first and send them a voice message, thank them for being apart of your tribe, and ask them how you can support them today.


Engage. Engage. Engage. And build relationships!


Today, your action item is to go engage on your ideal clients stories, 5 people. Go engage on their IG stories and then start an actual conversation from it. Here’s an example: So, I’m a cat lady so I always engage with people about their cute cats but then I actually start a real conversation with them. I’ll say, “It’s so great to connect with you, how did you get started in coaching?” Just have a human conversation and get to know them! As you get to know them, in turn they get to know you and give interest to you because you are giving real interest to them. Have that conversation, build that relationship and lead with wanting to get to know them.  This is always about them, not us. Lead with value all the time and that will naturally become your pitch.


As you build relationships, trust, and likability, that is how you’re going to create genuine warm leads.
